All the guests of Saint-Petersburg are attracted by unusual view of the Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood. Standing on the Griboedov Canal, it is clearly seen from Nevsky prospect, with its numerous domes, gilded crosses and mosaics.

The Church on Spilled Blood was constructed on the place where the revolutionaries-narodniks had mortally wounded the tzar Alexander II. The tzar-reformer, the tzar-liberator', Alexander II was an outstanding figure in Russian history, particularly respected and loved by people. That's why it is no wonder that citizens of St.Petersburg, as well as people from other Russian towns, gave donations for the construction of the church after the tragic event.

The church is unique for its decoration: inside you can see one of the biggest collections of mosaics in Europe. The walls are covered by mosaics from the floor to the ceiling, totally more than 7000 sq. m. Moreover, one can see the mosaics in the exterior decoration of the Cathedral, which is unusual, especially for Saint-Petersburg with its humid climate. The mosaics were created by talented Russian artists Nesterov, Vasnetsov, Ryabushkin.
